Know and believe who God is

God is Love.

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. -1 John 3:1

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. -John 3:16

God is Faithful and Righteous.

The LORD is righteous in everything he does; he is filled with kindness. -Psalm 145:17

The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. -Lamentations 3:22-23

God is Powerful and Mighty.

Who is the King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty; the LORD invincible in battle. -Psalm 24:8

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength. -1 Chronicles 29:11-12

God is Sovereign and Just.

The LORD has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything. -Psalm 103:19

He prayed, “O LORD, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you! -2 Chronicles 20:6

God is Merciful and Compassionate.

The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. -Psalm 103:8

How kind the LORD is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours! -Psalm 116:5

God is Good.

Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! -Psalm 34:8

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. -Psalm 136:1

God is Holy.

No one is holy like the LORD! There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. -1 Samuel 2:2

They were calling out to each other, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Heaven’s Armies! The whole earth is filled with his glory!” -Isaiah 6:3

God is Present.

Am I a God who is only close at hand?” says the LORD. “No, I am far away at the same time. Can anyone hide from me in a secret place? Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?” says the LORD. -Jeremiah 23:23-24

I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. -Psalm 139:7-10

God is Unchanging.

God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? -Numbers 23:19

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. -Hebrews 13:8

God is our Help, and he is with us.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. -Isaiah 41:10

For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” -Zephaniah 3:17

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. -Psalm 46:1

Because of Jesus, all of the following statements are true for the believer. This is our new identity in him. We can find our rest in him.

I am seen.

“You are the God who sees me.” -Genesis 16:13b

I am known.

You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. -Psalm 139:2-3

I am not alone. God adopted me into his family with great pleasure.

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. -Ephesians 1:5

I am a new creation.

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! -2 Corinthians 5:17

I am loved by God.

God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. -1 John 4:9-10

I am forgiven.

You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. -Colossians 2:13-14

I am holy, blameless, and without fault in Christ.

Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. -Colossians 1:22

I am complete in Christ.

For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority. -Colossians 2:9-10

I am free from condemnation.

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. -Romans 8:1

I am accepted.

Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory. -Romans 15:7

I am not forgotten.

No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you. -John 14:18

I am secure.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 8:38-39

I am being formed into his image.

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. -Philippians 1:6

I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. -Psalm 139:13-14
